The board met again at the end of November. A lot of things had been accomplished since we last met. This website was set up…Facebook page made…promotional materials printed…scholarship application formed. All these were smaller but necessary things.
But then two big things have happened and been decided since the last meeting – having to do with money. (It is a fund, right?)
1. Money was received. The folks at Antioch Christian Church were more than generous in their special offering. In addition, folks from across the country have helped immensely. So, now the fund currently stands at just over $30,000 in total. While that is a lot of money, it is not enough money for a perpetual scholarship for college students! That means another things needed to be decided:
2. How to invest, how much to invest, how much to use, and how to use the money we currently have. The board decided that while we wanted to invest money for the long-term benefit of future students, we did not want donors money to do nothing. The board decided – per its goals in the first meeting to:
A) Put just over $28,000 in an account with The Solomon Foundation for one a year,
at this time, gaining good interest in a short-term fund while we continue to asses
the Scholarship award’s needs. Investing with the The Solomon Foundation will
also allow donors’ funds to be used for Kingdom service – being loaned to
Restoration Movement congregations for their building growth needs.
B) $5,000 was withheld in a local interest-bearing account to immediately use for
the upcoming 2022 camp season. These funds can be used to transport and pay
for young men’s expenses to and from GAP (Go And Proclaim) preaching camps
this coming Summer. This will begin the long-term goal of raising up preachers
from youth to fund in higher learning institutions later.
Since our meeting, we have continued to be in contact with GAP (Go And Proclaim) Preaching Camps. There is not only a willingness on their part to receive any recruits we bring, but quite possibly accept our invitation to come and host a camp at our own southernmost campground in Mississippi. This would benefit not only the staff, sponsors, and students by not having to travel two days there and back to Ohio – but also benefit the fund with more cost-efficiency.
Please continue to pray for the fund
Please continue to give to the fund.
Please continue to encourage the young men in your congregations to PREACH!
We need you and them to grow God’s Kingdom together!
